2903 Community Service Self-Reflection

1. I volunteer in ZHO (Zayed higher organization), ZHO an organization that have all the ability to work or to be able to have special needs and the best teachers to take care of them.
   
   
   
   
   
   
2. The best part of volunteering is that was a new challenge for me to volunteer in special needs organization because I didn’t think about that at all I mean to deal or to take care of special needs. In specific way the best part was to pot the smile on their faces and to be the leading light for some to the students and always they well remember you because you gave them the hope they need.
   
   
   
   
   
   
3. I effort the community bay volunteer and share others my time with something that they need a minute to listen to a special need boy maybe you thought that is just a minute and its nothing for you but it mean a lit for special need boy because in this minute you can make him a better person in the future by leading or guiding him to the rights way or you can make him a bad person or sad by ignoring him.
   
   
   
   
   
   
4. I learned from this course how can I be positive always and how can I be better person with what I have without looking to other hands, also how can I be successful person in the future how can I effort my society how can I be useful for others and to be a person that everyone can learn from him and a leader for others.

11 Nov 2015 we completed our 25 hours of our volunteer and decided about this day to be the last day of our volunteer that each one of our group members made interview with different of ZHO employee in same day.

#week4 of volunteer

Nov 3, 2015 was our fourth day of our volunteer that there was UAE Election Day (Flag day) events in ZHO. Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed was one of the participants of flag day events that which enhance our volunteer duty because as we know sheikh Khalid one of the members of the ruling family in the UAE which mean he have choice and authority for doing his other jobs but he preferred to be with special needs events on that day.

I joined two workshops, in first period I was with my special needs friends who are on Iron and Welding that I was with them in proposing of volunteer for helping the staff there also for helping the special needs. I meet Mr. Hellal Albloushi how was their teacher and he was telling me about his basic job that I surprised he is business man but just he is coming to ZHO for volunteer and spending his time in helping special needs.

I decided to be in Printing/Binding in the second workshop and the teacher was Mr. Mohamed. He was talking with me about his experience with special needs how to deal with them, the challenges you face and so on, in the same time I was seeing the methods which he was using in dealing with people who are on special needs.

Week3 (volunteering)

Nothing you can get it from first time, that which called experience. In my third week from my volunteer, I been more enthusiastic for volunteering. Very great feeling when you deal special needs and when you try to improve their talent. That really beautiful thing when you make special need feel them self happy and as a normal human being.

People fare to deal with them because they don’t deal with special needs before also they fare about unexpected habit from special needs that may they face it. However, after dealing with special needs more than three times monthly that you will know how to deal with them. I love special needs also the employee in ZHO love special needs, why? Actually anyone who deal with special needs will tell you the same thing, because most of the special need are kind people and they learn and love to learn from you when teach them but with kindly way, (they doesn’t accept to learn from you if you were evil with them). One other important thing that some of them you have to be strict with them. In limitation you have to be their friend also to know when you have to be kind also when you have to be serious.

27 Oct 2015 was my third volunteering day that I joined two workshops (Electro Mechanic and carpentry2). My first period was carpentry workslop2 students that they were building beautiful small ships after that they had sport activities that special need was talking with me about their sport achievements either at the state level or worldwide. I played soccer with them before they sport teacher to come and I was very happy about performance and skills of some of them. After their sport teacher reached they had basketball class. That was another great day in my life.

And in the second period I joined Electromechanical department with instructor Mr. Muntasir, he is the teacher of this class and he showed me what this department do what activities the students do and learn in this department and I was impressed by the students , they know something that I don’t know, some of the student showed me how this is work the electric stuff and I found it little bit complicated but more than that they showed me they can learn something new and they can be members of producers in the UAE community . Zayed Higher Organization are working very hard to provide convenience and comfort for the students to feel them they are in there home.

Week2 of volunteering

Week2 of volunteering

In 22 Oct 2015 (second week) I joined 2 workshop in ZHO. My first period was in carpentry workshop with the teacher Mr Mohamed Alhammadi and the second period was in sewing workshop Mr.Alaa.

Second week of our volunteer in ZHO was a new challenge for us that we got a lot of new information which was really benefit for us. I joined Abdulrahman in the first workshop because I didn’t found Ms.Maitha to tell me which workshop I should join. I learned when you teach someone about something you have to benefit him in everything, what does that mean? My major in carpentry for example so I will not just focus in teaching special needs about carpentry, while I will try to teach them about ethical rules in general (without pressuring them) in depending to my life experience. That exactly the method which I saw the most workshops in ZHO are using.

 What is their efficient daily program?

1. Starting the day by reading Al-Fatihah from The Koran which take less than 2 minutes.
2. Review about safety rules and workshop rules.
3. Academic skills review.
4. Craft skills review and completing daily activities.
5. Finally arrange and organize the workshop.

The second workshop was sewing and it was amazing to meet the students there and the teacher. They were working on making hand band with the threads and at the same time they were learning the colors, in the begninig I just was see them while they working then I help them with what I can, then Mr.Alaa and one of the special needs teached me how can I make the hand band it was fun and they gave me the band which I did gift for me.

13 Oct 2015 was first volunteering day for my group in ZHO. Ms Maitha Almuhairi took us round special needs departments which include 11 departments (Carpentry, blacksmithing, electricity and so on). Each one of us choose department to stay on it even we will exchange departments weekly. That was absolutely new experience in our life.

I chose the most default department it was rehabilitation and I was dealing with one of the special needs his name is Ahmed and he can’t communicate at all with no body but physically he was okay.

Actually I learned a lot of things from dealing with special needs I must be careful all the time and before to take any decision you have to talk with special needs in suitable term to understand the situation also for taking right decision on right time. Each one of them has like a catalog (history) which include all details about themselves, so you as a person when you have specific information about them you will can to deal with those special needs by most efficient way.

Giving each of those people their needs and cover any shortfalls they have, is will be our purpose to make them satisfied about their life. People deserve that. We will try actually to invent methods which can benefit this organization as well as possible.

To be successful must important thing will be the obligation. We have to obligate about ZHO rules, coming on time, trying to invent new successful things always, giving ideas, trying to be benevolent by being patient, be positive.

Actually we have to initiate always to help people who joined ZHO and deal with them normally which is most important thing and cooperate with them in their activities for supporting their trust.

   

7.    What are the specific Benefits for the participants? (Both volunteers and recipients) 

Absolutely this will increase satisfaction about our self situation. We believe this activity will be really successful for us which will improve our communicating skills either with old people or with kids or with people who are in special needs position. Moreover how to use them to benefit or culture this thing actually we will try to get it also.  

8.   Any potential problems you see arising?? 

Any new challenge people face it in first time like a problem. There is the probability of mistakes to happen but we will try to prevent those mistake as much as possible while if the problem happens which possible we have to learn about our mistakes. The challenge will be how to achieve their needs without making problems, this actually which we are looking for.
